From the Executive's Desk...

February is a month full of hearts.  We have Valentines Day, American Heart Month, and we want to add the heart of PIA and that is our Members!  We are here for you and with you and your agency.

We started billing from our new system and are targeting to go live at the end of the month.  There will be exciting new opportunities for you to engage with us.

I want to challenge each of you to take a look at the CPIA program we are offering.  The Certified Professional Insurance Agent (CPIA) Designation is the first-of-its kind, hands-on, how-to training on sales and marketing topics and techniques. It is nationally recognized as the mark of professionalism, commitment to professional training and results, and exceptional technical knowledge.  Not only do you get the training, you get 6 hours of CE for each class.   There is no test for this program.  You can go to our site for more information.

February Member Spotlight: Chris Meinberg

How did you get into the insurance industry:

I grew up in Clearwater, Fl. and graduated from Clemson University back in 1991 with a Business Management degree.  Family friends suggested that I apply to Cincinnati Insurance Company for an insurance job.  I applied for an underwriting and a claims position with Cincinnati Insurance.  I was accepted into the claims class, as the start date was earlier than the underwriting class.  Claims gave me the opportunity to go out and meet with people.  I chose Winston-Salem out of several cities in the southeast, because it was the closest to Clemson University.  Once here, I fell in love with North Carolina and the area, met my wife and did not want to move.  The corporate ladder grew shorter, since I wanted to stay in Winston-Salem, so I made the jump to the agency side back in 1997.  It has been a wonderful decision ever since.


How has your career benefited from being a member?

My career has benefited from being a member by the networking and friendships that I have been able to develop.  These relationships, with both agents and company representatives continue to this day.  Being able to pick up the phone at any time and ask a question or bounce thoughts off of other friends in the industry is invaluable.  Not only have I developed great business relationships, but I have also developed trusted and lifelong friends.


What would be the theme song of your life right now?

Tim McGraw’s “Humble and Kind” resonates with me.  I try to live my life by being humble and kind, whether it is with Church, Family or Work.  The song reminds us of how we should always treat others.  Life lessons are taught in the simple words of the song.  Being humble and kind will take you further in life and we should never take anything for granted.


Who/what inspires you?

I am inspired by individuals who have overcome obstacles and never quit to become successful.   Whether they be physical or business obstacles, I am very inspired by their stories.


What do you love most about your job?

I love the people that I work with, whether it be in the office or various companies we represent, they make it easy to come to work.  I love getting out and meeting with my clients or trying to develop relationships with new ones.  The interactions with other people and trying to help them with their insurance needs or issues, drives me.  I thoroughly enjoy the conventions where I can network with old friends and meet new ones.


What are you reading or listening to?

I am currently reading “Legends & Lies The Patriots” by Bill O’Reilly.  I like the series that Bill O’Reilly has put together, as I enjoy reading about history.  As for listening, I have a very eclectic taste in music from Classic Rock, Country or just upbeat music, to Irish Folk music, or funny as it may seem, some classic Disney songs.


Coming Presidency:

I am honored to have been selected to be President of PIANC in the coming year.  I look forward to continuing to grow our association and convention.  I want to strengthen our company bonds and develop new ones.  I want to continue our commitment to PAC and our Legislative operations whether it be Federal or State.  I am hopeful that we can communicate and expand on our member benefits.


I look forward to meeting with our members and expanding our offerings to benefit our industry, as we move forward.  Thank you for putting your faith and trust in me and please contact me with any questions or suggestions as we move forward.

Floodplain Education

The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is a Federal program, established by Congress in 1968, that allows property owners to purchase federally-backed flood insurance within communities that participate in the program.  In return for this insurance protection, participating communities implement floodplain measures to reduce flood risks to the new development.  Through this program, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and participating communities are able to reduce future flood losses.
